  • MXtreme’s centralized policy tools for email content filtering enable administrators to consistently enforce corporate policies with content filters that search message headers, body and, attachments based on the configuration you choose. MXtreme’s policy tools scan inbound and outbound email messages to reduce your company’s exposure.

Content filtering is provided primarily through two services on the MXtreme:

Objectionable Content Filtering (OCF) - OCF provides the ability to monitor both incoming and outgoing messages for objectionable content. MXtreme has a pre-installed dictionary, containing offensive and vulgar words and phrases, which can be edited to scan for additional content. Organizations can add known spam, confidential or compliancy related words and phrases to the dictionary to enhance its search range. OCF provides organizations with a powerful way to monitor content and ensure that only valid email is sent or received.

Pattern Based Message Filters (PBMF) - PBMFs allow organizations to create filter rules for specific words or phrases. Rules can be created to prevent emails with confidential words or phrases from leaving the organization, as well as help to enforce policies and compliancy. PBMFs can be used to augment the effectiveness of OCF to ensure that more complicated pieces of information, such as Social Security Numbers or credit card numbers, can also be caught.

    • Content filters are applied to both inbound and outbound mail traffic

    • Content filtering can be performed on any aspect of an email message such as sender address/domain, recipient address/domain, connecting IP, subject line and any part of the message body

    • Multiple action items provided to help customise and fine tune content filtering, including reject, quarantine, accept (i.e. override spam controls) etc.

    Enforce Corporate Policy

Automated enforcement of corporate or regulatory policies with regards to what messages need to be encrypted, stopped or quarantined before they leave an organization, ensuring policies are enforced and vital corporate data is protected.

"Content filtering is quickly becoming a key complement to core anti-virus and anti-spam features. This functionality aids the enforcement of corporate policy, and is essential for many businesses in the regulatory compliance process." Radicati Group, 2005

"Organizations are finding that it is not enough to just scan inbound messages; they must now also scan outbound messages for things like content and confidentiality breaches… For instance an organization with a corporate compliance officer may want certain email to be routed to this person for approval, such as email that clearly violates the policy against disclosure of confidential information." Osterman Research, 2005
